Home Ooey-Gooey Activities for Kids

I remember what it was like to be a kid with an endless supply of energy, a wild imagination, and the attraction to all things ooey and gooey. What a care-free time it was. I used to let my giant wad of slime drip off the corner of the kitchen table, as it slowly stretched toward the floor I’d imagine that it was hot lava! I’d have to put on my superhero cape and save the world from the spreading doom of hot lava. It’s amazing how far a child’s imagination can take them with one piece of goop. Which is why parents only need a few simple tricks hidden up their sleeves to keep their kids entertained at home.

With the school year coming to an end, parents are starting to make arrangements for their kids during the summer months. Some are heading off on a family vacation, while others are spending the summer at home doing various activities, like day camps and outdoor activities. Let’s not forget about indoor activities to beat the heat and stay cool!

So, for all the parents that are trying to plan some fun things to do with the kids during the summer, try these DIY ooey gooey activities that you can make at home:

School glue - Elmer’s white glue in a medium bottle works best
Borax (Sodium tetraborate)
Food coloring (optional)
Two bowls

1. In one bowl, pour one whole medium bottle of glue. Once the bottle is empty, refill the bottle with water and mix it in the same bowl as the glue. Mix well.

2.  (Optional) Put two drops of food colouring of your choice. Mix well.
3. In another bowl add half a teaspoon of Sodium Tetraborate (Borax) to ½ and ⅙ cups of hot water. Stir until borax dissolves.
4.  Take the first bowl (glue and water solution) and slowly pour it into the second bowl (borax solution.)

5.  The slime will begin to form immediately.

6.  Using your hands begin to lift the slime from the bowl and knead together.

Voila! You’ve got yourself some ooey-gooey slime.
